the rug

poetry: demonstrates personal love of writing

we gather

on your worn softness.

you may be dingy,

but you are cherished.

your threads are matted down

with the time we shared,

with tea spilt,

and lots of our hair.

we love you

for the memories you hold.

a capsule of our time

spent together.

so many jokes were cracked,

so much laughter burst from our lips,

so many tears were shed,

so much did our friendship grow.

you bore our grief,

you accepted our shame,

you cradled our mirth,

you fostered our trust.

soon your time will be through,

i dread the day.

but we remember the moments

we spent loving each other

while sipping tea on you.
